Red Cedar Chamber Music

Biber, Bach & Beethoven

Red Cedar’s core ensemble, violinist Miera Kim and cellist Carey Bostian, once again team up with their sons, emerging artists Oliver and Adrian Bostian, for their third new program in as many months of self-isolation. Biber, Bach and Beethoven features three different combinations of instruments.

Biber’s Sonata Representativa will be played by violin and cello, with new artwork by composer Philip Wharton and verses by Janet Burroway. Bach’s Sonata for Viola da Gamba and Harpsichord Obligato, BWV 1027 will be presented with Carey on the solo part and Miera and Adrian playing the right and left hand parts of the harpsichord on their respective instruments.

Finally, Beethoven’s monumental String Trio, Op. 9, No. 1, includes violin, viola and cello, with Oliver joining his parents as violist.

Special thanks to Artist Sponsors Juanita Dennert and Schultz Strings.

We are closing out our season with a final live stream concert set.

All in the Family

All in the Family includes several works for string quartet by Red Cedar’s composer-in-residence, Michael Kimber, including the world premiere of the “Red Cedar Blues,” composed for our recent concert project Physics, Art & Music. The remainder of the program is a variety of music spanning from early English baroque to a work by the great violin virtuoso Niccolò Paganini. Five different combinations of instruments culminate with a rare appearance (for Red Cedar) of a piano!

Special thanks to Juanita Dennert and Don and Irene (Naxera) Hamous for artist sponsorship of these events.

Stuck at home with the kids? So are we! Red Cedar Chamber Music’s directors and core ensemble, violinist Miera Kim and cellist Carey Bostian, have found a unique solution to the challenges our organization faces at this time. With 27 events postponed indefinitely, our audience thirsting for entertainment, and two children to occupy, we decided to make the most out of our self-isolation.

Putting our two sons, Oliver (17) and Adrian (15) to work, we have planned a program of family chamber music to be live-streamed to the world, but most importantly, our Eastern Iowa audiences.

Attention

Dear Friends of Red Cedar Chamber Music:

In the interest of public health, we will be postponing the remaining events in our performance season (March 23 - May 10, 2020). We and our guest artists look forward to sharing these exciting concert programs with you when possible. All tickets will be honored or refunded. In the meantime, please stay well.
